International, 15.3.2011: Living Square: sophisticated ceramic designs

In Living Square Laufen presents a washbasin solution for hotels and exclusive bathroom architecture. Featuring smooth generous surfaces and clearly defined contours, the elegant washbasins exude a distinctive presence – and are also highly practical.

For Laufen, the Stuttgart designer, Andreas Dimitriadis (Platinumdesign) has created an ultra-shallow washbasin with unusually clear-cut contours – a true masterpiece of ceramic art. Light and slim, and a mere 35 mm at the front, the washbasins seem to float on the horizontal, revealing at first glance the consummate craftsmanship of the Swiss bathroom specialist. As Andrea Dimitriadis remarks, “Lots of architects will love the Living Square washbasin because it is made of an authentic, recyclable material, displays a clear, linear design language and is modular”.

The elegant Living Square washbasins are available in high gloss white or black and in widths of 1300 and 1800 mm. The 1800 mm washbasin can be optionally fitted with two faucets, transforming it into a double washbasin. They are also highly practical: they provide lots of storage space for arranging all the necessary accessories in clear view, they are easy to clean and can optionally accommodate an integrated liquid soap dispenser. Another convenient feature is the wide chrome hand towel rail which can be fixed under the washbasin. As the washbasins can be cut to size at the factory, they can be custom-fit into corners or recesses, and even diagonal cuts are possible. Living Square is therefore ideal for hotel and private bathrooms where the emphasis is on the authentic and practical qualities of ceramic.

The washbasins can be combined with similarly designed Living WCs and bidets, and with a new ceramic shelf. This ceramic shelf is another Laufen ceramic masterpiece as it is completely level and just 35 mm deep. Available in several widths from 900 to 1800 mm, the cut-to-size shelf provides lots of easy-to-clean storage space under the washbasin.

Laufen also presents a metal vanity unit, specially designed for hotel requirements. Available in 1300 or 1800 mm widths, the furniture element and washbasin form a practical unit. Its large, open shelf is perfect for freshly laundered hand towels and accessories, and it also features a practical integrated paper tissue dispenser. It is available in white, anthracite and black.

Living Square also co-ordinates beautifully with Case, a new furniture collection which was specially designed for the series. The design of the Case furniture, also created by Andreas Dimitriadis, is just as minimalist and timeless as that of the washbasins. Case is available in the trend colour white or textured decors of limed or anthracite oak. Some 38 other colours are available at little extra cost; a matching selection of illuminated mirrors rounds off the collection. The two new faucet series, Twin Prime and Twin Prime Pin in the Laufen portfolio are also perfectly coordinated with Living Square.
